The return of the south wind is the name of a weather phenomenon in southern my country. It is mainly because after the cold air leaves, warm and humid air currents quickly counterattack, causing the temperature to rise and the air humidity to increase. When some cold objects encounter the warm and humid air currents, water droplets are easily produced. The temperature begins to warm up and the humidity begins to rise.
Furniture is very easy to be damaged in a humid environment. Furniture is expensive to buy, and if it is not properly maintained, it will easily shorten the life of the furniture. So how should we maintain furniture in this special weather?
1. Leather furniture maintenance:
Genuine leather furniture is often made of leather, which can become hard and prone to mold when exposed to moisture, and can even cause deformation or discoloration. Keep leather furniture about one centimeter away from walls, not against them. Place desiccant inside and around the furniture to absorb moisture.
In addition, waxing leather furniture every six months, or using special mink oil, leather oil, etc. to maintain the surface can prevent and reduce moisture and mold. For example, commonly used leather sofas, leather leisure chairs, etc.
2. Fabric furniture maintenance
Fabric furniture easily attracts dust when it gets damp, so it's important to first use a small vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the surface of the furniture to prevent mold and mildew during humid weather. When humid weather arrives, gently and slowly blow hot air from a hair dryer on low setting over the fabric furniture to remove moisture. For example, for commonly used fabric sofas and fabric lounge chairs, it's best to cover the sofa with a highly absorbent cloth to facilitate moisture absorption and cleaning.
3. Maintenance of wooden furniture
When wooden furniture gets damp, water droplets appear on its surface, which reappear after wiping it dry. This can cause the wood to swell, crack, and deform, significantly shortening its lifespan. For wooden furniture, apply a special detergent evenly to the surface and then gently wipe it. This will form a protective film that protects against moisture while maintaining its shine. Walls near exterior walls and bathrooms should be well ventilated. Avoid placing solid wood furniture directly against walls, and install waterproof pads under the feet of furniture that absorb water easily.
