Metal filing cabinets in the office are mainly used to store documents, files, and other materials, making it convenient for people to organize their files and adding a comfortable feel to our office environment. As we all know, opening a filing cabinet requires a key, but what if you lose your key or can't find it temporarily and urgently need these documents? Don't worry, the editor from Henan Huadu Times Furniture is here to give you some tips.
There are many ways to open a steel filing cabinet. First, you need to make sure the filing cabinet belongs to you and that you have no legal liability for opening it. Then, feel free to experiment with me!
1. Carefully observe the cabinet door's structure. (If you have a similar cabinet or door and the key, you're in luck.) Insert a flathead screwdriver into the lock hole and forcefully turn it in the direction you normally open the cabinet door, usually clockwise. Move it back and forth a few times; a filing cabinet isn't a safe, and it should open easily at this point. If it still won't open, you'll need a larger flathead screwdriver. This will allow you to open it with maximum force.
2. Check where the locking pins of the filing cabinet are located and carefully observe how the cabinet doors are locked. Then, try tapping on them, aiming to open the cabinet doors, but try not to damage the cabinet.
3. If it's still not open, try looking for the key again. If you find it, great, congratulations, you can open it directly. Otherwise, please refer to point 4.
4. Slowly drill through the lock cylinder with an electric drill. Be careful, as the cabinet is easily deformed. Considering the reuse of steel filing cabinets after opening, please proceed slowly. After opening, go to a locksmith or hardware store to replace the lock.
5. Using a clip and wire hook: This method requires some skill. First, use a clip to hold the lock cylinder in place. Then, use a wire hook with a curved tip to insert and pull back and forth. Some hooks are double-sided, requiring you to pull both up and down. When opening, be careful not to use too much force with the clip; just enough to hold it in place. If you can't master this method, you can choose the method mentioned above.
6. Contact the manufacturer for a solution. Actually, many filing cabinets now come with a management key, commonly known as a master key. If you are unsure, you can contact the manufacturer and have a professional unlocker come to your home to unlock the cabinet, make a new key, or replace the lock cylinder.
