Sofas are a commonly used piece of furniture, but when used, their placement also has its own particularities. If placed correctly, it can be beneficial to the feng shui of your home. So, how should sofas be placed for optimal feng shui? Deloitte's Leather Sofas will share some tips on sofa placement.
Pay attention to the number of sofa sets
Sofas can be categorized into single-seater sofas, two-seater sofas, long sofas, and circular sofas. They can also be made of leather or fabric, and come in a variety of colors and designs. The number of sofa sets in your living room should be considered; it's best not to have just one and a half sets, or two sofas at once.
It is better to place it in a curved shape than in a straight shape.
The sofa plays a crucial role in the living room, much like a country's key harbor, which must be able to hold as much water as possible to thrive. A high-quality harbor must have outward-facing curves on both sides, resembling the English letter "U." These outward-facing curves resemble arms supporting and embracing, while the central depression is the ideal feng shui qi point, trapping wind and gathering energy to achieve both prosperity and wealth. Sofa placement should also resemble a high-quality harbor, with one arm extending outward on each side. If the sofas are arranged in a straight line, it would be like a warrior with one arm cut off, meaning little progress. For example, in the living room, you can choose a leather sofa or a fabric sofa. Corner sofas can be leather or fabric. Modular sofas are also suitable, and the choice depends on your needs.
There should be a backrest behind the sofa
To put it simply, "having a backrest" means having a solid wall behind the sofa. If there's a window, door, or doorway behind the sofa, it's like having no backrest at all. From a psychological perspective, the sofa feels empty and lacks a sense of belonging. If there's truly no solid wall behind the sofa, a more effective solution is to place a decorative cabinet or screen behind the sofa. This is called "synthetic backrest," and it can also provide a compensatory effect. For small apartments, it's best to place a fabric sofa against a wall, maintaining a small gap between the sofa and the wall, which also helps maintain the sofa.
It is not suitable to have a glass tank behind the sofa
However, one thing to keep in mind is that water shouldn't be placed behind a sofa, so placing a glass tank behind it is also not a good idea. Similarly, placing a glass tank or other water-related decorations on a decorative cabinet behind the sofa is also not a good idea. Of course, for a sofa without support behind it, it would be helpful to fill the space behind it with plants.
