Wooden office file cabinet installation steps

2025-10-30

We've ordered a small number of office filing cabinets, and we don't want to have them installed at the factory. Is it possible to do it yourself? Of course, the manufacturing process for office filing cabinets is now very mature and easy to install. If it's a knockdown filing cabinet, installation takes only about ten minutes. So, what are the manufacturer's general installation methods for conventional filing cabinets? What are the formal procedures? Let's share some information with you from Henan Huadu Times Furniture.

1. Component installation:

(1) The side panels, doors, front panels, and bottom panels of office filing cabinets are all double-clad. The order of installation of these components is generally as follows: wooden frame installation and surface finishing → gluing → assembly and gluing → specification and size processing → edge banding installation → component processing.

(2) Installation of drawers of filing cabinets.

(3) Install the filing cabinet's legs. Install the single piece: Assemble the two legs and one part into a single piece. Assemble the legs: Assemble the two single pieces and two lookboards to form a complete leg, and then install the corner plugs.

2. Installation of side panels, top panels and front panels:

Apply glue to the pre-drilled holes in the side panels, top panel, and front panel, insert the round pattern, and begin installation. When installing the side panels, top panel, and front panel according to the file cabinet's structural diagram, ensure the drawer slides and crosspieces are properly installed to ensure the drawers are positioned vertically. Install the back panel.

3. Install the cabinet and stand:

Use wood screws to connect the tripod to the base plate through the pre-drilled holes in the tripod panel.

4. Install the door:

Cut hinge slots at appropriate locations on the upper and lower sides of the door's outer edge, 0.5mm deeper than the hinge's total thickness. Then, secure the hinges to the side panels and door panels with wood screws. Open the door several times to check the installation quality, and adjust the gap between the door cap and the bottom edge of the drawer panel until it fits properly.

5. Install edge banding strips:

Level the top and sides of the side panels. Secure the edges with 10mm-thick wood strips using both nailing and gluing. The strips should be 22mm wide, the same thickness as the side panels. To prevent small items placed on the filing cabinet from rolling to the floor, secure an edge strip to the back of the front panel while securing the top of the side panels. The edge strips should be butted together at a 45° angle.

6. Install the handle

Use wood sandpaper to polish the surface and alignment lines to remove burrs, glue and other contaminants.
