Genuine leather sofas are loved for their dignified elegance, luxurious quality, and durability. With such a wide variety of leather sofas on the market, it can be overwhelming. So, how can we distinguish between genuine and fake genuine leather sofas when buying one?
Leather sofas come in two types: genuine leather and imitation leather. Genuine leather uses natural leather, primarily cowhide and pigskin; imitation leather is artificial. Natural leather has regular natural pores and grain. Cowhide has fine, dense pores arranged irregularly, resulting in a smooth texture. Pigskin has pores arranged in a triangular pattern, making it looser. Imitation leather lacks these characteristics, or if it does, it's artificially created, making it relatively easy to distinguish. From their cross-sections, natural leather is composed of interwoven leather fibers, while imitation leather lacks this structure. Genuine leather has good colorfastness; rubbing the surface vigorously with a damp cloth will not cause color fading. The seams are neat, the stitching is even, and the lines are straight, resulting in a smooth, full surface without wrinkles. Genuine leather sofa manufacturers have various types of leather, and the quality of the leather directly affects the quality of the sofa produced.
Check the material
"Genuine leather sofa" is actually a general term; pigskin, donkey hide, and cowhide can all be used as sofa materials. Among them, cowhide is soft, thick, and of the highest quality. Sofas generally use buffalo hide, which is thicker and more affordable. Top-grain cowhide is even better. Horsehide and donkey hide have similar grain to cowhide, but the surface is loose and prone to peeling over time, making them less durable and therefore cheaper.
Distinguish odors
If a genuine leather sofa manufacturer uses genuine leather, then genuine leather will have an animal-like smell; while fake leather, on the other hand, tends to have a more pungent leather smell.
Look at the corners
In order to reduce costs, some genuine leather sofa manufacturers use high-quality leather on the upper part of the sofa, but mix in some inferior leather on the back or corners.
Look at the filling
The filling material mainly refers to sponge, which is classified into three types based on elasticity: high-elasticity, high-elasticity super-soft, and medium-elasticity. A specific method is to press the sofa's armrests and backrest with your hand; if you can clearly feel the wooden frame,
This proves that the sofa's filling density is not high and its elasticity is not good enough.
