Genuine leather sofas are a type of sofa, favored for their high-end elegance, sturdiness, and durability. Common genuine leather sofa materials include cowhide and horsehide, but there are also sofas made with imitation leather. With a wide variety of genuine leather sofas on the market, how can you distinguish between different types of leather? Below, Delo Leather Sofa will share some relevant knowledge with you.
The grain of top-grain leather is not evenly distributed; the grain lines vary in size. Artificial leather, on the other hand, has standardized grain patterns, which are generally distinguishable to the naked eye. If a genuine leather sofa manufacturer uses top-grain leather, then the quality of the sofa can be guaranteed. In such cases, the uneven and seemingly chaotic grain patterns are clearly visible on the surface of the leather.
The feel of the leather is another way to distinguish between top-grain and split leather. Split leather has a rougher texture and less elasticity than top-grain leather, making it difficult to achieve the same delicate feel. Furthermore, it's difficult for split leather to regain its original shape after long-term stretching and contraction. Top-grain leather, on the other hand, has a very fine feel and excellent elasticity. When a seller shows a sample leather, you can use the model to distinguish it. At the same time, you should personally feel the leather on the sample and the finished product to see if the feel is consistent, avoiding the possibility of some sellers using counterfeit leather. Using top-grain and split leather in the production of genuine leather sofas yields different results; don't underestimate these differences.
Pressing with your finger is an effective way to distinguish between top-grain leather and synthetic leather. When you press top-grain leather with your finger, fine lines will appear around the area where your finger touches; these lines will disappear when you release the pressure. Synthetic leather, however, doesn't easily develop these lines when pressed. Medium-thickness leather, being more durable, doesn't have very prominent lines, but you can still see this characteristic if you look closely. Regardless of the brand of the leather sofa, whether well-known or unknown, pressing the leather with your finger can determine whether it uses genuine materials.
Microfiber leather belongs to the category of synthetic leather. Due to technological advancements, some high-quality microfiber leathers have an appearance very close to genuine leather (many are made of simulated leather). However, upon close comparison, the pores of genuine soft leather are more clearly visible, and the texture is more natural; while microfiber leather, being synthetic, lacks skin pores, and its texture is more regular and uniform. Furthermore, mid- to low-end microfiber leather may have a plastic-like feel. The reverse side of microfiber leather has a velvety feel.
