First, select wood that has already dried to a suitable moisture content. When buying wood for furniture, choose wood that is already dry, has low moisture content, and is of good quality. If the purchased wood has a high moisture content, immediately saw it into planks or small squares according to furniture standards, stack them in a ventilated, dry place to dry, and avoid direct sunlight to prevent cracking and deformation. Dried wood is less susceptible to insect infestation and reproduction, so the furniture made from it will not be infested by insects.

Secondly, use chemical control methods. If the wood is infested with insects before being used to make office furniture, dissolve 1 part boric acid and 1 part borax in 30 parts water and apply the solution to the dry wood. Repeat the application several times to allow the solution to penetrate. After drying, use the wood to make the office furniture. Apply the solution again when the furniture is finished to prevent insect infestation. If the finished furniture is still infested, use kerosene to make a 2%–5% solution of dichlorvos and apply it 3–4 times. If the insect holes are large, use absorbent cotton soaked in the solution to plug them, packing them as deeply and tightly as possible. Repeat the application of the solution several times to completely kill the woodworms.

Third, first remove and organize the items from the office furniture infested with insects. Items that cannot be washed should be placed in the sun to dry. The office furniture should be wiped several times with disinfectant and then completely ventilated and dried. For wooden office furniture infested with woodworms or termites, a small amount of insecticide (DDVP) can be dripped into the boreholes. Alternatively, chili peppers or Sichuan peppercorns can be crushed into powder and stuffed into the boreholes.

Fourth, apply diesel fuel. On a sunny day, place the wooden cabinet that has been infested with insects in a sunny spot. Use a brush or cotton yarn to apply diesel fuel to the entire cabinet. After sunning for two or three hours, apply it again and sun-dry it once more. Once you see the insects dead at the entrance of the holes, wash it with laundry detergent and dry it.

Fifth, treat with paint. For corners of wooden office furniture that have not yet been infested by insects, apply raw tung oil, shellac, or varnish to the surface of the cabinet to isolate the insects from the air, thereby achieving the purpose of preventing insect infestation.

Other precautions

Avoid placing panel office furniture in direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can cause fading and even peeling. Also, keep it away from air conditioners and heaters. In air-conditioned rooms, place several potted plants or aquariums to maintain humidity and prevent moisture absorption from the furniture. When placing items on furniture, use a soft pad and handle them gently and vertically to avoid damaging the surface. If scratches appear, have them repaired by a professional immediately. Place rubber pads on the furniture legs to prevent damage during movement; avoid dragging or pulling to prevent uneven stress and damage. Use a clean, soft cloth to wipe the furniture, ensuring no water droplets or watermarks are left.

Panel office furniture is relatively expensive among various wardrobe types and is also more difficult to maintain.
